The ELA standards I feel most comfortable with would include "Informational Text", "Multiple Sources", "Use Digital Media", and "Evaluate Points of View" because I have experienced the uses of multiple modes of media growing up in this age of technology. Other reasons I feel comfortable with these standards is because I previously learned about these topics extensively in former English classes. The ELA standards that I could use a little more help with include "Literature" and "Integrate and Evaluate" because I have a hard time evaluating and analyzing certain situations.
In the classroom I would use technology to enhance my communication with my students and their parents. A way to do this would be via e-mail or phone call. As a teacher I would also use the internet to access portals so that my students can use different ways to learn a subject. Being a digital citizen is about being able to properly access the internet and being respectful to yourself and others once you get there, which includes obeying copyright laws, avoiding sarcasm, protecting themselves from online criminals, and basically just being smart about using the Web. My students will be in the 8-10 age range so it will be important for me to teach them how to properly use the Web and become a decent digital citizen so that they have a good foundation going into middle and high school where they will be using technology every day.
I have only just started the Newsletter design assignment so I don't know whether I will like it or not (even though I should) and I don't know how to improve on it yet because I haven't finished it. However, since beginning the assignment I have learned more about headings and how to properly set up a newsletter because of the newsletter option on Word. In the future I can use a newsletter to capture the attention of my students better so they are more interested in learning about what I have to say.
